Rocker Ted Nugent may have gotten a visit from the Secret Service after comments he made in April that he’d either be “dead or in jail” if President Barack Obama is re-elected, but that certainly didn’t discourage him from continuing to exercise his freedom of
crazy speech during a “CBS This Morning” interview airing Friday (May 4).
“I feel sorry for liberals who can be that brain-dead as to take a clear statement of fear on my part and turn it into a threat against somebody else,” he tells interviewer Jeff Glor.
Nugent goes on to say that the Secret Service agents were good-natured during what he called an “adorable” meeting, and when he told them he didn’t threaten anyone with his comments about Obama, he believes an agent responded, “I didn’t think so.”
He also says that presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney’s campaign “expressed support” for the comments he made.
The Romney campaign responded by re-issuing the statement it released shortly after Nugent’s comments went viral.
“Divisive language is offensive no matter what side of the political aisle it comes from. Mitt Romney believes everyone needs to be civil,” Romney’s spokesperson says in a statement.
And, of course, an interview with Nugent wouldn’t be complete without at least one random explosion, which came about as a result of Glor suggesting Nugent isn’t the kind of moderate Romney will need support from to win the election.
“I’m an extremely loving, passionate man, and people who investigate me honestly, without the baggage of political correctness, ascertain the conclusion that I’m a d— nice guy. … And if you can find a screening process more powerful than that, I’ll [expletive bleeped out]. Or [expletive bleeped out]. How’s that sound?”
The second part of his comment was directed toward a female CBS producer, to whom Nugent’s wife later made him apologize.
Nugent also later called Glor to tell him he was taken to the emergency room after the interview for a kidney stone, which Nugent believes contributed to his elevated energy level.
