Ashton Kutcher received the Teen Choice Awards equivalent of the lifetime achievement honor Sunday (Aug. 11), which he jokingly called “the old guy award.”
But then he got serious, delivering an impassioned speech about opportunity, sexiness and living your life actually contained some pretty good advice. Here are some excerpts:
On opportunity: “I believe opportunity looks a lot like hard work,” he says, recounting jobs as a dishwasher, at a deli counter and sweeping up a factory floor before he broke into modeling and then acting. “… I’ve never had a job in my life that I was better than. I was always just lucky to have a job. .. I never quit my job till I had my next job. So opportunity looked a lot like work.”
On sexiness: “The sexiest thing in the entire world is being really smart. … Everything else is c***. It’s just things people try to sell to you to feel like less, so don’t buy it.”
And the third thing: “When you grow up, you tend to get told the world is the way it is. … Life can be a lot broader than that when you realize one simple thing: Everything around us that we call life was made up by people who are no smarter than you. You can build a life that other people can live in. Build your life, don’t live it.”
What did you think of Kutcher’s message?
