“Teen Mom 2” star Leah Messer-Calvert recently opened up about her struggles to pay her daughter Ali’s medical bills.
4-year-old Ali was diagnosed with a rare, incurable form of muscular dystrophy back in 2013, and Messer-Calvert reveals to In Touch that the medical bills are far more than she had ever imagined they would be. “It’s stressful because insurance doesn’t cover the whole cost. One bill alone was $20,000,” Messer-Calvert says.
Thankfully, Messer-Calvert isn’t shouldering all the responsibility for the finances on her own. She reveals that her current husband, Jeremy Calvert, and Ali’s father, Corey Simms, are both helping with the bills.
But Messer-Calvert isn’t focusing on just the negatives. She’s also so proud of how far Ali has come since her diagnosis. “She uses big words — like ‘optimistic’ and ‘challenging’ — sometimes things I wouldn’t even think to say,” Messer-Calvert says. “Ali is really smart and she’s well aware of her disease, but she doesn’t let it burden her.”
