We’ve followed the lives of Amber Portwood, Maci Bookout, Farrah Abraham and Catelynn Lowell since the beginning of the MTV reality phenomenon “16 & Pregnant,” but their lives are very different after four seasons of the spinoff “Teen Mom.”
Season 4 begins with the girls at turning points in their lives: Farrah is trying to figure out whether to bring daughter Sophia with her when she moves to Florida, Maci is trying to send Bentley to daycare while planning for a future with boyfriend Kyle, Catelynn is making it through the second birthday of the daughter she gave up for adoption, and Amber is dealing with her anger and addiction issues by heading off to rehab.
It’s nice to see Catelynn in a happier place one year after her emotional breakdown on Carly’s first birthday — she and Maci have always seemed to have it together way more than their “Teen Mom” castmates. Even Farrah has matured, though it’s worrisome that she waited so long to tell her parents she wasn’t leaving Sophia with them after all. It was also heartbreaking to watch her visit Derek’s grave and realize that she truly has been through some horrible things in her life.
The saddest part of the show was seeing Amber continue to struggle with her emotional, legal, anger and substance abuse issues. There is obviously a lot of pain there, and it’s truly heartbreaking to know that she’ll eventually give up and ask the court to send her to prison so she can deal with her problems there.
This is the last season with the original cast, and it’s not going to disappoint in the drama department, that’s for sure.
