“The Biggest Loser” returns for its 15th season Tuesday (Oct. 15) and host Alison Sweeney is excited that the show is about more than decreasing numbers.
“What I really like this season is that it is not just the numbers on the scale that you will be compelled by,” Sweeney tells Zap2it. “It is also people learning. Sometimes the achievements are what you learn about yourself.”
Sweeney, who has hosted the show since Season 4, is committed to exercise and healthy diet and loves seeing others adapt healthy habits.
“There was a moment last week when someone said, ‘I found a workout I love! How are they going to keep this up for the rest of their lives if they don’t find something they love?” she says.
The key to maintaining weight loss is, “You just have to find the right thing for you,” Sweeney says.
This season, with its onslaught of corporate tie-ins, the show will offer a couple of firsts.
There will be “The Biggest Loser Run/Walk” — a triathlon where participants will swim one-half mile, bike 12 miles and run three — as the final challenge. Also, “American Idol” alum Ruben Studdard is the first celebrity player.
“We are sticking to what we know works,” Sweeney says. “In a bigger picture way the reason the show works so well consistently is we are a show about inspiration, believing you can overcome any obstacles, and you have to believe in yourself. And the trainers are always saying, ‘Thank you for changing my life!” It goes beyond weight loss. You can overcome any obstacle if you believe in yourself.”
