Zap2it: Especially on the heels of your relatively conservative “Ghost Whisperer” character, “The Client List” is taking your image in quite a different direction. What prompted you to make that decision?
Jennifer Love Hewitt: I felt this was a great character to be able to do that with, because she’s really so full. If she was just a “happy endings” specialist, I don’t know that would have been as worth it for me. Because of the flip side of it — she’s also just this Texas mom doing the best she can, with a reason for doing this — it felt like a good time for me to shake things up a little bit.
Zap2it: Do you feel your fans have accepted that, based on the show’s initial ratings?
Jennifer Love Hewitt: Being in the business that you love for a long time is great, and what comes with that is an audience that grows up with you. Like any human beings, actors need to change and evolve and try new things. Hopefully, the audience will go with that.
Zap2it: The promotion for “The Client List” has gotten lots of attention, particularly since it shows you in a more revealing way than usual. Have you been comfortable with that?
Jennifer Love Hewitt: We wanted to go as far as we could, to show how provocative the show is … but at the end of the day, this is still a mother of two, and there are lots of scenes where I’m fully clothed and having conversations with people and crying about the trials and tribulations of being a single mom. All of that is intercut with the images of giving sexy massages.
“The Client List” airs Sundays on Lifetime.
