The CW is beefing up its original summer programming for 2014, starting with a half-hour comedy block, new reality shows and the migration of drama “Beauty and the Beast” to the warmer months.
New reality show “Famous in 12” joins comedies “Backpackers” and “Seed,” magic series “Penn & Teller: Fool Us” and “Masters of Illusion,” along with “Whose Line is it Anyway?” and the remainder of “BatB” Season 2.
“Beauty and the Beast” will return to its 9 p.m. ET/PT Monday timeslot on June 2 for the final six episodes of the season. It will be paired with “Whose Line,” which will air new episodes at 8 p.m. and encores at 8:30.
“Famous in 12,” premiering Tuesday, June 3 at 8 p.m. ET/PT, follows one fame-seeking family 24/7 for three months, guided by TMZ and other fame experts.
“Backpackers” marks the on-air debut of the digital series created for The CW’s online studio, CW Seed, and follows two best friends traveling across Europe, trying to figure out what to do with their lives while simultaneously tracking down the person who stole Ryan’s journal and published it online. It premieres Monday, July 14 at 8:30 p.m.
The network’s other new half-hour comedy, “Seed,” premieres July 14 at 9:30 p.m. and follows single bachelor/bartender/sperm donor Harry who bonds with three of his recipient families. New and encore episodes of “Whose Line” will air at 8 and 9 starting July 14.
The magic series “Penn & Teller: Fool Us,” debuting Wednesday, July 30 at 8 p.m., features aspiring magicians who perform their tricks in front of famed duo Penn & Teller, who will then try to recreate them. Those who fool the experts will perform with them at their Las Vegas show. “Masters of Illusion,” hosted by Dean Cain, premieres Friday, Aug. 1 at 8 p.m. and features magicians doing tricks in front of a live studio audience.
