The next Batman film has set its sights on a few prominent young actresses, including Anne Hathaway, Jessica Biel and Keira Knightley, for its primary female roles. A couple lesser-known names may be in the mix as well.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, “The Dark Knight Rises” will have two main female roles — a love interest for Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) and the villain Talia, the daughter of Ra’s Al Ghul (played by Liam Neeson in “Batman Begins”). It’s not clear which actresses are testing for which roles.
In addition to Hathaway (“Love and Other Drugs”), Biel (“The A-Team”) and Knightley (“Atonement,” “Pirates of the Caribbean”), Warner Bros. is also bringing in Kate Mara (“127 Hours”) and British actress Charlotte Riley (“The Take”) to test for director Christopher Nolan. Gemma Arterton (“Clash of the Titans”) is also in the mix, but she recently booked “Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters,” which the HR says could make her unavailable for “The Dark Knight Rises.”
(Riley, incidentally, is engaged to Tom Hardy, who co-starred in Nolan’s “Inception” and will also be in “The Dark Knight Rises.”)
Filming on “The Dark Knight Rises” is scheduled to begin in May; it’s due for release in summer 2012.
