Isaac Mizrahi believes television is almost always in fashion.
The noted designer has made many home-screen appearances, and he’ll do
so again when the Bravo competition series “The Fashion Show” returns
with an “Ultimate Collection” season Tuesday, Nov. 9. Mizrahi will
co-host the contest with model-actress Iman, and he’s happy to see
design getting such a TV showcase again.
]]>“I’ve been thinking about that so much,” Mizrahi tells Zap2it. “‘Sex
and the City’ really brought us to that place, because not only was it
those four different and well-defined characters, but [costume
designer] Patricia Field served them every single week with the styling
and the clothes. That was really a master stroke.
“I look at TV now and think there are some shows that look wonderful,”
Mizrahi adds. “For instance, ‘The Good Wife’ looks great, and Julianna
[Margulies] looks great in those clothes. It’s a kind of business
dress, but Christine Baranski also looks amazing on it.”
Lately, The CW has been calling TV reporters’ atttention to what the
stars of “Gossip Girl” will wear in each episode. Mizrahi deems that
show “very, very fashion-obsessed, but it’s second-generation. ‘Sex and
the City’ was really the first show like that, and fashion is not first
and foremost on ‘Gossip Girl.’ It’s another character, and it’s really
the young girls that show focuses on. And it happens to be beautifully
Even the “Real Housewives” franchise on Bravo has a place in Mizrahi’s
current fashion-on-TV thoughts. “It’s kind of one step farther than
‘Sex and the City,'” he reasons. “For every seven mistakes, the eighth
person looks really wonderful … yet it’s not really fashion-forward
the way ‘Sex and the City’ was. It’s not really the same kind of
