For a lot of last season, fans of “The Goldbergs” were agitating for the show to move from Tuesday to Wednesday nights.
That has now happened, and ABC Entertainment president Paul Lee expects big things from the show in its second season.
“We could have kept ‘Goldbergs,’ because it was strong enough on its own and a self-starter on Tuesday, but we thought it’s going to be just perfect on Wednesday between ‘The Middle’ and ‘Modern Family,'” Lee said Tuesday (July 15) at the TV critics’ summer press tour. “And by the way, we think ‘Black-ish’ is a natural lead-out [after ‘Modern Family’]. So we’re very bullish about Wednesday this year.”
Lee notes that “Goldbergs” repeats have been performing fairly well on Wednesday nights this summer, and he expects that to continue into the fall.
“I personally believe ‘The Goldbergs’ is going to be discovered by a lot more people this year,” Lee says. “If you watched the finale last year, it’s an extraordinary show. We’re thrilled with the creative [so far] this year.”
“The Goldbergs” Season 2 will air at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT Wednesdays in the fall.
