“The Good Wife” star Josh Charles‘ character Will Gardner declared his love for Alicia (Julianna Margulies) in the season premiere, but the voice mail in which he did so got deleted before she could hear it. Now a new woman has come into his life.
“At the end of the last episode, you met a sportswriter named Tami played by Elizabeth Reaser. Tami and Will’s relationship develops and you’ll see how that affects the dynamic between Will and Alicia,” Charles tells Zap2it.
“The whole dynamic progresses,” he continues. “Pretty soon here you’ll see that take a bit of a step in one direction. You’ll see stuff get dealt with little by little. I haven’t seen that episode myself yet, but I’m very excited to see how that turns out because I think it was handled really well. People are going to like it.”
In addition to Will’s new love interest, another wrench was thrown in the works when Wendy Scott-Carr (Anika Noni Rose) declared her candidacy for the State’s Attorney’s office. Peter Florrick and Glen Childs are not the only people feeling the effects of that.
“It’ll shake things up across the board,” says Charles. “I think it can’t help but not. How it does … we’ll see. I don’t know specifically when, but we’ll start to understand that more.”
“It’ll be fun for our audience to see that come to fruition, either now or after midseason,” says Charles. “I will tell you this, but they make a concerted effort for all the
characters on the show, as we peel off the layers of the onion and get
into their backstories, that those stories feel authentic to what we’ve
seen already. So that things don’t feel random and arbitrary.”
We also had to give Charles our compliments on the “Double Jeopardy” episode, in which we saw Will back in action in the courtroom, which we missed at the end of last season.
“He had a lot of issues with the firm at the end of last season, with keeping it afloat, so there were other things that took precedence,” he explains. “You’ll continue to see Will in court, absolutely.”
“The Good Wife” airs Tuesday nights at 10 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.
