Warning: Major spoilers from
“The Leftovers” Season 1, episode 7, “Solace For Tired Feet” are contained in this article.
Holy smokes — a lot happened in this episode, and it raised a lot of questions, so here we go. First of all, it’s tough to totally grasp the way time moves on this show. Suddenly Nora and Kevin have been on more than four dates? Maybe they were just trying to spare us their awkward first encounters, but nonetheless, the two are now in a full-fledged relationship. Also, now that Nora appears to be healed of her pain from her hot boyfriend, in addition to her healing hug from creepy Wayne, the Guilty Remnant is now stalking her and Meg is one of the members on duty.
Speaking of creepy Wayne, we find out a little more about his creepiness in this episode, and boy, if we thought he was disturbing before, this blows that out of the water. Wayne calls Tom — who, by the way, hasn’t spoken to his Wayne in two months (another time thing) — to have him leave some money for him at a mailbox, and Tom waits it out to see who arrives to pick up the cash.
When he follows the young man doing Wayne’s dirty work, he is shocked to see the guy is just like Tom, harboring one of their master’s favorites, who is pregnant with the golden child. I briefly thought Tom was going to go back home after this, because he seemed to really be struggling with it, but then I remembered Christine. Tom’s adopted girlfriend really proved she is a force to be reckoned with in episode 7, by delivering her own child, which turns out is a girl. They should run off together and leave Wayne in the dust.
Back to the insanely hot and troubled Kevin Garvey. Just we’re really starting to wonder why in the world he was experiencing all these traumatic blackouts, we find out he is taking all kinds of things to numb himself — and it is some seriously strong stuff. Kevin has a violent night when he is visited by the weird dog man and gets bitten by one of the vicious creatures. However, Kevin doesn’t remember any of this at all, no does he remember Aimee bandaging up his wound and speaking with him that night. So now things are awkward with his daughter’s best friend, and am I the only one who is still hoping for a hookup between these two?
To give Kevin even more issues to deal with, his dad frees himself from the looney bin, and we find out a lot about what got him in there in the first place. Some of the things include: He burned down the town library, he has extremely violent episodes and he entered the facility voluntarily, so he was voluntarily able to get himself out.
Big Garvey is still just as crazy as ever, and says his voices told him to purchase a National Geographic magazine from May 1972 for Kevin. I can’t wrap my brain around the meaning of this whole thing. If someone can let me know its big significance, please do. Anyway, as we know, Big Garvey isn’t Kevin’s favorite person, so their time together ends badly and Big G. ends up back in the crazy barn.
Kevin clearly needs to feel some serious relief, and blows past the stalkers to go get it on with Nora in an amazing sex scene. How hot is Justin Theroux, ladies and gentleman? Those tattoos, that body, his moves — whoa. Oh and when Meg tattles on Kevin to Laurie, she doesn’t care.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go take a cold shower.
