“The Maze Runner” is the latest young-adult novel to get a big-screen translation, and the first trailer has been released. It aired during Monday’s (March 17) “Teen Wolf” — not a surprise since the film stars the show’s Dylan O’Brien — and looks ready to give fans exactly what they want.
In the adaptation of James Dashner’s novel (he also co-wrote the script), Thomas (O’Brien) finds himself trapped in the middle of a giant maze. It’s a world filled with teenage boys, none of whom remember their pasts or anything more than their first names. The only way out is to traverse the maze. But no one has found an exit, and horrors wait to kill anyone who remains in the labyrinth at night.
While the trailer doesn’t give too much away, there are glimpses of the maze, the fraught relationship between Thomas and some of the other boys, and the arrival of the Maze’s first girl.
What comes next? That’s where the thrill comes in.
“The Maze Runner” is set to open in theaters Sept. 19, 2014.
