CBS Entertainment chairman Nina Tassler introduced her network’s only new fall comedy of the 2014-15 season, “The McCarthys,” as “a Boston show even you Yankee fans will love” when she debuted the first trailer in front of advertisers at the network’s upfront presentation at Carnegie Hall in New York City. (The Matthew Perry-starring “Odd Couple” won’t premiere until 2015, and did not debut a trailer.)
It’s a broad-skewing family sitcom about a man from a close-knit Boston family who contemplates taking a teaching job in the far away land of Providence, Rhode Island. We’re assuming he stays, since that would kind of mess up the premise of the entire show.
Interestingly, there are way fewer terrible Bahhston accents in the trailer than there are in TBS’ Beantown-set “Buzzy’s.” And there are 100 percent more members of “New Kids On the Block,” since it stars Joey McIntyre as one of the brothers. (Tassler pointed out that with Donnie Wahlberg on “Blue Bloods,” CBS has 2/5 of the NKOTB members on its fall lineup. Or, as McIntyre then yelled in a well-timed heckle, they’ve got “the right stuff.”)
A joke about “The Good Wife” played best at the CBS-hosted shindig. Take a look at the trailer below and see what you think.
“The McCarthys” airs Thursdays at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT on CBS starting Oct. 30.
