Yes, there will be a dog on “The Meredith Vieira Show.”
While every new daytime program says that it’s the newest thing ever, this one might actually be what it claims. Vieira’s house band will be led by E Street Band drummer Everett Bradley. Executive producer Rich Sirop comes from a game-show background. The dog is actually a trained service dog that will go to a person who needs it at regular intervals.
Another big change is that Vieira seems so thoroughly comfortable in who she is and what she wants to do. Even during the panel, the host talked about her husband, who suffers MS: “I think Richard would love the thought of smoking grass. So I guess we’ll be doing that soon!”
What will the actual format be? Vieira envisions a talk show mixed with audience participation, viral videos, guests and recurring segments. Two of them are Stall Talk — in which Vieira and a guest do an interview in a public restroom — and Everett-O-Grams — where the band delivers difficult members for people. For a Stall Talk piece, Vieira recounts that she had Martha Stewart in the bathroom and received a toilet paper swan at the end.
All of this put together makes “The Meredith Vieira Show” sound a lot like a late-night show — just airing during the day.
