Season 1 of “The New Normal” ended in grand fashion, with the birth of David and Bryan’s baby and a beach wedding with the whole gang on hand to celebrate. Stars Andrew Rannells and Justin Bartha tell Zap2it they found the finale a wonderful cap to the season.
“It’s really a lovely, emotional, very funny wrap-up of this whole journey that we’ve been on,” says Rannells.
“It was a very satisfying, beautiful ending,” Bartha echoes. “It encapsulates the spirit of what we wanted to do with the show.”
“The New Normal” has not officially been renewed for a second season and it’s far from a lock. The show has been averaging just over 5 million viewers — but the ratings depend heavily on “The Voice” as a lead-in.
The “New Normal” episodes with a “Voice” lead-in average 4.96 million viewers, as opposed to the episodes without a “Voice” lead-in, which average just 2.86 million viewers. That’s a pretty significant difference. But since the ratings aren’t terrible when the lead-in is stronger, perhaps NBC will keep “The New Normal” around.
Zap2it’s voters are split 61.5 percent to 38.5 percent in favor of killing it.
