You’d better be ready for a whole bunch of “The Simpsons.” When the long-running animated series debuts makes its cable debut Aug. 21 at 10 a.m. ET/PT on FXX, it’ll be with a record-breaking marathon of every single episode, and the movie, in chronological order.
That’s right, all 552 episodes, plus “The Simpsons Movie,” will air over 278 hours, ending on Labor Day. The series will also be available through “Simpsons World,” a digital experience available through the FXNOW app and on SimpsonsWorld.com. It features live channels airing episodes of “The Simpsons” 24-hours-a-day, plus access to the show’s entire library on demand. At this point, the original “The Simpsons” shorts from “The Tracey Ullman Show” are not part of “Simpsons World,” but FX President of Program Strategy and COO Chuck Saftler says they’re working on it.
The site and app will also be a portal to “Simpsons” content from around the Internet and feature curated and user-created playlists, detailed episode guides, the ability to share clips, user profiles, scripts and a “random episode” feature. Additionally, viewers will be able to collect doughnut points, granting them access to hidden features.
To access “Simpsons World,” you will need to authenticate your cable subscription. FXX plans to expand to more carriers in the next year to reach as many people as possible. the experience will be supported by ads before and during each episode. “Simpsons World” will be available on iOS devices, Android devices, Apply TV, Samsung TVs, Xbox 360 and Xbox One with a release targeted in October.
