Maude Flanders is about to get some company in the afterlife. “The Simpsons” is preparing to kill off another character and it sounds like it may be an important one. During a conference call to promote the animated show, which is celebrating 25 seasons, executive producer Al Jean spilled the news.
“We’re actually working on a script where a character will pass away,” he says without revealing a name. However, Jean does shed a little light on the mystery, adding, “I’ll give a clue that the actor playing the character won an Emmy for playing that character, but I won’t say who it is.”
Everyone in the main cast has won an Emmy for their performances on the show at some point. The specific characters that have won the honor are Bart, Lisa, Homer, Marge, Edna Krabappel and Apu Nahasapeemapetilon. Additionally, Hank Azaria has won three Emmy awards for “various characters” on the show, leaving many options. If you add in the guest stars who have won the award, there’s also Kelsey Grammer (Sideshow Bob), Anne Hathaway (Princess Penelope) and Jackie Mason (Rabbi Hyman Krustofski).
Let the guessing game begin as fans try to figure out who will meet their end. Surely any character departing Springfield for good is bound to be a sad affair. “The Simpsons” isn’t the only show killing off a character, as it was revealed at Comic-Con that “Family Guy” will see the death of a member of the Griffin family, who will be replaced.
So, which character on “The Simpsons” are you ready to say goodbye to? Sound off below.
