“The Vampire Diaries” Comic-Con panel on Saturday (July 26) kicked off with a little something special: A continuation of the final scene of the Season 5 finale, showing Bonnie and Damon trying to figure out what. Just. Happened?
Oh no, wait, it was actually series stars Kat Graham and Ian Somerhalder trying to figure out if they were written off the show! What followed was quite a cute parody video of all the stars “coping” with losing Graham and Somerhalder — and by coping, we mean celebrating their bigger dressing rooms and more money. It was hilarious.
Then, the cast — Graham, Somerhalder, Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley — and executive producer Julie Plec walked onstage to a room full of screams, and were joined by surprise panelist (and new series regular) Matt Davis. Here’s everything they revealed about the upcoming Season 6:
— How will the events of the Season 5 finale affect Season 6? “With the Other Side being obliterated, other people that have died before can’t come back to visit us,” Plec says. “That’s heartbreaking but we were able to bring a couple of them back, a couple of the favorites.” Ahem, hello, Alaric Saltzman!
— Bamon — Bonnie and Damon — are now stuck together in some mysterious place, so they will be sharing quite a lot of scenes together. “I would definitely say you’ll see more interaction between them,” Graham says.
— Now that Alaric’s back, expect to see him get a job that feels very familiar. “Alaric will be living outside of Mystic Falls having compelled himself into a new teaching position at the local university,” Davis says.
— Will Alaric get any new love interests? “I think that people do get naughty in our universe and if anyone deserves a little naughtiness, it’s Professor Saltzman,” Plec says.
— With Damon (seemingly) dead, will Elena find comfort in the arms of another guy? Doesn’t sound like it (you’re welcome, Delena fans). “If she did that, that would mean her experience and her love for Damon wasn’t real,” Dobrev says. “When we pick up in Season 6, she’s definitely not in a happy place but she has a very interesting, confusing, strange way with dealing with her grief.”
— When a fan wondered if there was any hope for Stefan and Elena to reunite somewhere down the line, Plec says it won’t happen anytime soon but never rule it out. “I hate to say there’s never any hope for anything,” Plec says. “Right now the love between Damon and Elena is so strong and the friendship between Stefan and Elena is so strong. Elena just had her second soul mate ripped from her arms so that’s going to take up quite a lot of the show for a while.”
— Plec (once again) discussed how there are always discussions about crossovers, but there’s no news about anyone crossing over at the moment.
— How will Rick feel about Damon’s other drinking buddy Enzo? “Very territorial and very jealous, I’m sure.” Davis says. Plec says that Rick will probably see right through Enzo’s charm and won’t put up with it, so probably no drinking sessions between these two vamps anytime soon.
“The Vampire Diaries” Season 6 premieres Thursday, Oct. 2 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
