During the long, lonely summer without new “Vampire Diaries” to watch, we may have revisited some Season 1 episodes to help pass the time. (Whatever. Shut up. We can quit any time we want! We only had a couple. We barely inhaled.)
The most jarring differences between Mystic Falls now and Mystic Falls then are Tyler and Caroline — and we’re not just talking about their transformations into a werewolf and a vampire, respectively. Back then, Caroline was insecure and looking for love in all the wrong places, and Tyler’s only relationship — with Vicki — drove her right into the arms of Jeremy.
“He was an a-hole,” Michael Trevino agreed when we visited “The Vampire Diaries” set this week.
“A d-bag,” Candice Accola elaborated. For the record, they had just wrapped a day of filming episode 306, and all signs pointed to Tyler and Caroline being fully in-a-relationship. (We expect that their Facebook statuses have been updated, because Caroline is that type.)
Yep. Tyler/Caroline is so on. Forwood. Tyroline. Careler?
Don’t worry, though — Tyler won’t be giving Caroline the Vicki treatment. “Tyler is a changed man,” Trevino assures us. After losing his father, facing his werewolf side, and even taking a break from Mystic Falls, Tyler is more compassionate. “He grew. His maturity level is a lot higher than it was in our season 1 Tyler.”
As we’ve seen from the promo trailers, things get pretty hot between them pretty fast. That doesn’t mean it’s going to fizzle quickly though. Looks like this hookup might have some longevity.
“I would like it to last,” Trevino tells us. Of course, they’re teenagers, and they’ve got scary villains after them, so things may get complicated… especially when he transforms.
“There will be a transformation,” he says. “I don’t think it’s going to be as graphic as the first one, but there will be a transformation.”
We know Caroline likes to, you know, hold him through the pain, but after he nearly took out big bad Damon last season, we think she should keep her distance. If he bites her, it’s the end of the affair.
“If Tyler accidentally nipped Caroline, then she would die and he wouldn’t
be gettin’ no nookie,” Accola teases. “A smart man would keep those fangs where they
We don’t want to be the ones to throw the wet blanket on the situation, but, uh… what about a certain busboy? “Let’s just say Caroline has obvious scenes with Tyler,” Accola says. “She also has scenes with Matt [Zach Roerig].”
“She’s a floozy,” Trevino says. “A floozy.”
Well. There you have it.
“The Vampire Diaries” begins (finally!) on Thursday night at 8 p.m. EST on The CW. In the meantime, watch the video below to hear about Klaus’s interest in Tyler, and the Coldplay song that could potentially play while Tyler transforms in a waterfall. Just… watch it.
