In a chilling moment, the audience realized that the emotional goodbye that Caroline (Candice Accola) thought she shared with her boyfriend was actually an embrace with the villainous Klaus. For the “Klaroline” fans, that may have been intriguing — but when Tyler and Caroline figure out what’s going on, we’re guessing they won’t be too pleased.
When “TVD” returns for Season 4, Trevino will have the chance to play Klaus as he tries to get back into his own body. We caught up with Trevino at the Teen Choice Awards on Sunday Night, where he took home the award for Choice TV Scene Stealer for the second year in a row. We had to find out about his approach to playing Klaus.
“I tried to keep it subtle,” Trevino says. “I didn’t want to mimic what Joseph Morgan does. It really comes down to just keeping it simple, where Klaus is just the king. He’s the end all, be all, most powerful vampire in the world. You can’t touch him, and he can’t be messed with. So you just have that kind of bravado. You walk with that kind of swag.”
It’s a decidedly creepy concept when you look at it from Caroline’s point of view, in that she’ll be interacting with a guy she thinks is her boyfriend — but who is actually a murderous villain (albiet, one who definitely has designs on her). “One would think that if Klaus is in Tyler’s body he’s gonna take full advantage of that in good ways and bad in dealing with Caroline,” Trevino says. “It is very gross.”
We can expect Klaus to play to his own agenda — that is, while he’s in Tyler’s body, he’ll do his best to create a rift between Tyler and Caroline. “Klaroline” fans, that spark you’ve seen between Klaus and Caroline is real, and this season she’ll finally face her feelings for Klaus and choose between the hybrids.
“We can only go so long without Caroline picking between each one, because there is something about Klaus that she loves, so she has to decide. She decides that. It has to come to a point where she has to choose one or the other,” he teases.
Check out the video below for a little bit more from Michael Trevino, including his thoughts on Tyler’s post-graduation plans. Just as a warning — it was pretty loud on the red carpet, and we may have been distracted by some pyrotechnics at Universal Studios at the beginning of the clip!
