We know that “The View” co-host Whoopi Goldberg has a history of friendship with Mel Gibson, and sometimes, it’s important to stand up for our friends. But when our friends go on multiple abusive, misogynistic, racist rants that are then publicized all over the internet, it might be time to cease public support. Just saying.
While Whoopi did say “I don’t condone this. I don’t think this is right. I don’t think this is smart,” when she spoke about the mind-blowing tapes of Mel Gibson screaming obscenities at girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva. But she also said that he’s not racist, despite his use of the N-word and his use of the word “pack” to describe a group of black men.
On the August 3 episode of “The View,” RadarOnline exec David Perel faced the firing squad. Mel Gibson’s scandal has raised RadarOnline’s stock in the world of celebrity journalism, as they’ve been the source of the multiple audio clips. Apparently, Whoopi doesn’t approve.
]]>Goldberg actually points a finger at Perel when she asks, “Do you think that [Mel Gibson’s scandal] would’ve been the firestorm that it turned into had you not put it on? Why did you put it out there if not to make scandal, to continue RadarOnline’s legs?” We’re not sure what rock Whoopi has been living under. Next, she’s going to ask TMZ why they cover Lindsay Lohan’s jail stay. Whoopi also accuses Perel of putting Grigorieva in danger, “if [Mel] was angry enough to do all that.” She goes on to question Grigorieva’s actions. “If a man hits you, holding your child, and he hit the child according to what she’s saying, so why not go to the police first?” she wonders. The reality is that a majority of domestic abuse victims don’t go to the police when they’re abused. When Perel tries to bring up statistics, Goldberg interrupts him. “This is a woman who put her stuff on your site,” she says, but Perel denies that, saying, “I don’t think that’s an accurate characterization. This is all part of an official investigation. We have talked to the police, absolutely. We didn’t find out until after the police had it.” What do you think, Zappers? Is Whoopi Goldberg blaming the victim? Did RadarOnline’s release of the audio tapes further endanger Grigorieva or help protect her? Sound off in the comments below. Follow
