“The View” has had its first big shake-up since Star Jones and Rosie O’Donnell left in 2006 and 2007. Joy Behar and Elisabeth Hasselbeck are gone and Jenny McCarthy has joined the panel alongside Whoopi Goldberg, Sherri Shepherd and Barbara Walters.
McCarthy took the stage to loud applause and rousing cheers — “I auditioned to be the new Batman and didn’t get it,” McCarthy quips.
When the talk turns to this “new” fad of twerking, which is not actually that new, McCarthy can’t believe Walters and Goldberg didn’t know what twerking was prior to this whole dust-up with Miley Cyrus.
Barbara actually made us laugh when she goes, “Do you remember when we didn’t know words like ‘twerk’ and ‘hashtag,’ like last month?”
And then McCarthy and Shepherd demonstrate twerking. Sherri Shepherd, you go lady.
As they actually discuss Cyrus’ performance at the VMAs, McCarthy says, “If you’re feeling a little bit insecure about your talent, I see that artists tend to push the envelope to kind of mask …”
Hmm. Does McCarthy make a good point?
Later, the first guest was Donnie Wahlberg, who just so happens to be McCarthy’s new beau. When Sherri asks them to confirm their relationship (because she’s always had a crush on him), Donnie quips, “If I had only seen you twerking before …” to Sherri. Hee.
But then he says in all seriousness, “Jenny slipped her phone number to me after her show and I didn’t call her for a while. I didn’t. But then after a while I was hearing little things and she was putting little signals out there, so I decided to call. … We went out once, we spent about six hours together and we talked the entire time.”
They confirm they’ve been dating since early July and then they play a “View” version of “The Newlywed Game,” which was pretty cute.
What did you think of McCarthy’s debut on “The View’?
