The superstar singers partner on “Something Bad,” one of the cuts on Lambert’s album “Platinum,” set for release Tuesday, June 3. The first single, “Automatic,” already is getting radio airplay, but Lambert — who also performs as a member of the group Pistol Annies — is particularly enthused about her duet with Underwood.
“I am totally pumped about this,” she tells Zap2it. “I think it’s going to be an amazing thing for country music to see two of its girls who have sort of been rolling together since the beginning. We kind of started at the same time on reality shows, and we both know what girls go through as female artists.
“It’s really cool that we can collaborate,” adds Lambert. “I don’t know the last time this happened in country music at this level, so I think it’s going to be great. And I’m really excited about the video possibilities. I don’t even know what’s going to happen there, but I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s some kind of explosion or firepower involved.”
Lambert has seven nominations — including Female Vocalist of the Year (which she won in 2010, 2011 and 2013) and Entertainer of the Year — in the 49th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards, which CBS televises Sunday, April 6.
Her husband, Blake Shelton, will co-host the event with Luke Bryan again. Lambert is appearing with him on the current season of NBC’s ‘The Voice,” but her closer connection there is to rival coach Shakira, whose team she’s advising.
“Blake and I were actually making a comparison to ‘The Golden Girls’ the other day,” Lambert muses. “We watch that all the time, and I was like, ‘[On “The Voice,”] I’m like Stan.’ I knock at the door every now and then, and that way, I have a place in the family.
“I love ‘The Voice.’ We were watching it last night at my mother-in-law’s, and we all sit around the TV and watch it like any other American family. It’s fun to watch it with Blake, because he laughs at it like he’s never seen it before … and he’s there every day. Everybody gets a fair chance on ‘The Voice,’ and that’s what I love about it.”
