On the Tuesday (May 28) results episode of “The Voice,” it was time to cut the fat, as they say. America’s votes determined who from the Top 8 would make their way to the Top 6. With Shakira and Usher at one contestant each, would tonight be the night that one (or both) of them would find themselves out of the competition? Or might Blake Shelton or Adam Levine finally lose an artist?
First a little music
Blake’s team advisor Sheryl Crow stopped by to perform her new single “Easy” with Team Blake. It was a nice summery song, and the contestants sounded great singing along with Sheryl.
A little coach chatter
Adam boasts about his team’s continued risk-taking, while Shakira tells her last-standing artist Sasha Allen that, should she be eliminated tonight, it would be her coaches fault. Usher praises Michelle Chamuel for remaining true to herself, while Blake teased Adam a bit and rambled even more.
A little more music
Michelle and Team Adam’s Judith Hill teamed up for a duet on Calvin Harris and Florence Welch’s “Sweet Nothing.” The audience had a mini-rave. Good times were had.
The first artist saved: Michelle. Usher’s reaction was adorable. Team Usher’s got another week in them.
The night’s next duet
An interesting pairing of The Swon Brothers with Sasha on Jason Aldean and Kelly Clarkson’s “Don’t You Wanna Stay” proved to be rather inspired. Sasha’s voice is insanely good in whatever genre and the Swons were right in their sweet spot. This one was a real treat.
The next artist saved: Danielle Bradbery. Was there ever any doubt?
Why not another duet?
Saved Danielle teamed up with Sarah Simmons on Christina Perri’s “A Thousand Years,” which I’d say was the first misstep of the night. There didn’t seem to be much cohesion between the two and Danielle sounded really shaky at the start. Not my favorite thing either of them have done.
The next artist saved: Sasha. Shakira had another incredible reaction. With both new coaches in the came for another week, it’s clear that Adam and Blake are getting ready to say some goodbyes.
The night’s last duet
Holly Tucker and Amber Carrington teamed up for Reba McEntire and Linda Davis’ “Does He Love You,” during which both women were right on the money. It’s a country diva duel and I’m hard-pressed to call a victor. It was a stellar moment for both artists.
The next artist saved: The Swon Brothers. Did Team Adam’s experimentation last night doom them? What’s happening here?
The last two artists saved: Amber and Holly
Eliminated: Judith and Sarah. What? Seriously, what? What just happened? There are no words. Both of this season’s frontrunners gone in one fell swoop. Wow.
Do you think the right two went home, “Voice” fans?
