“The Voice” continues its tradition of giving backup singers their opportunity to grab at the spotlight with the introduction of Sasha Allen, a mother of two who put her career on hold to raise her family.
Before taking the stage, Sasha revealed that she was a classically trained pianist whose mom took her to clubs to learn how to sing. Apparently, it did wonders because the 30-year-old had previously sang backup vocals for John Legend, Alicia Keys, and “The Voice”s very own Christina Aguilera.
She took to the stage with an unbelievably soulful performance of the Dixie Chick’s “Not Ready To Make Nice.” Maybe the fact that her young children and fiance weren’t able to travel to Los Angeles with her provided the necessary emotional push because there was something so beautifully melancholic in her audition. It was hardly a surprise that all four coaches turned, practically salivating.
In her pre-audition interview she had admitted that, while she would love to work with Shakira or Usher, she felt that Blake Shelton and Adam Levine were the furthest from what she was used to doing and could offer her the greatest growth potential.
Blake tried his hardest, explaining that her song choice proved they were meant to be together, but Adam’s opening remark probably sealed the deal. “You are magic and you have an unbelievable God-given gift that I really want to be a part of,” he said. And a part of it, he’ll be. Sasha chose Team Adam, giving the Maroon 5 frontman one Season 4’s frontrunners.
What did you think of Sasha’s performance, “Voice” fans?
