“The Walking Dead” companion series might not be a completely separate story from the hit AMC zombie drama after all. According to new rumors about the project, the spinoff might actually be a prequel.
TV Line hears murmurings that the series will be “a prequel of sorts, one that would chronicle the early days of the epidemic and the effort to contain it.” That’s far from confirmed and AMC didn’t comment, but it sounds like a legitimate idea that could be being tossed around in the writer’s room.
When AMC announced the new show, few details were revealed other than the fact it would involve a completely different cast of characters. With the network hoping for a 2015 launch of the new series, there’s plenty of time to consider all the possible options for the project.
“It definitely won’t be set in Georgia,” Robert Kirkman recently told IGN. “It’s important to us that this show exists on its own. The spin-off has to be a show worthy of existing, or else we’ve all sold out.”
“The Walking Dead” airs Sundays on AMC at 9 p.m.
