ABC’s “The Revolution” is a show about advising women who are struggling in their health, home, wardrobe, and yes — their sex life — but one of the experts calling the plays has been celibate for almost 30 years.
Tim Gunn, who found fame as a mentor on “Project Runway,” admitted this week on the show that he hasn’t had sex in 29 years. “In the spirit of our hero women who are open and transparent and vulnerable… I haven’t had sex in 29 years. Do I feel like less of a person for it? No. Not even remotely.”
Of course, he admits to having, uh, urges, on occasion. “I’m a perfectly happy, fulfilled individual, and I have feelings. I mean, it’s not as though I’m some barren forest.”
When prompted to explain further why he hasn’t jumped into bed with anyone in the last three decades, things got even more personal — and Tim grew emotional. “It’s largely psychological for me,” he admits. “I was in a very intense relationship for a long time and my partner ended it, saying that quite frankly, he was impatient with my sexual performance. That was the origin of it.”
He was also keeping health in mind as AIDS was becoming more prevalent. “It was at the cusp of AIDS and I think a lot of people simply retreated because they were concerned about their health. I certainly was. I’m happy to be healthy and alive, quite frankly.”
