TNT is dipping its toe into the monster genre with a “Frankenstein” series based on novels by best-selling author Dean Koontz.
James V. Hart (the 1992 “Dracula,” “August Rush”) and his son, Jake Hart, will write the pilot script for the show, Deadline reports, and James Hart will be an executive producer alongside Koontz.
Koontz’s story is set in New Orleans, where Victor Frankenstein, now going by the name Victor Helios, has managed to survive for 200 years after he was presumed dead in a battle with the monster he created. The monster survived too, and coincidentally has also settled in New Orleans. Victor has continued his experiments, both extending his own life and creating new beings who are deeply loyal to him.
If that sounds a little familiar, it’s because the TNT project is the second adaptation of Koontz’s “Frankenstein” series to come to television. USA aired a movie in 2004 that was based on the first book in the series and starred Thomas Kretschmann, Parker Posey and Vincent Perez. Koontz, however, took his name off the project after a creative dispute.
