TNT has greenlit “Murder in the First,” a drama from Steven Bochco (“NYPD Blue”) that will follow a single case over the course of a season.
Season-long mysteries have become something of a trend on cable in the past few years, but they’re old territory for Bochco. He co-created “Murder One,” which followed a high-profile murder trial for a full season, for ABC in 1995. (It did well enough to earn a second season, but audiences didn’t pick up the next case and it was canceled.)
“Murder One” was primarily a courtroom drama centered on the defense team, but “Murder in the First” will focus on a pair of homicide detectives played by Diggs (“Private Practice”) and Robertson (“Boss”). Felton plays a Silicon Valley hotshot who’s connected to the murder of a drug addict just as he’s about to take his company public.
The series also stars Steven Weber, Mimi Kirkland, Raphael Sbarge, Ian Anthony Dale and Bess Rous. Bochco co-created “Murder in the First” with Eric Lodal.
