For all the Hollywood adaptations and cartoons turned plays, it’s nice to see a true Broadway original get air time during the 66th Tony Awards.
A performance from the Andrew Lloyd Webber rock opera “Jesus Christ Superstar” brought down the house during Sunday’s (June 10) award show. The cast, including Josh Young as Judas, offered an impressive rendition of “Superstar,” a song that actually charted on the Billboard Top 20 in 1971.
It could be a big night for the play. “Jesus Christ Superstar” is up for a Tony for Best Revival of a Musical as well as for Young for Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical.
