The new, U.S.-based season of “Torchwood” will premiere in the summer, and based on the poster the show has just released, we’re already kind of excited for it.
“Torchwood: Miracle Day” will debut on Starz at 10 p.m. ET Friday, July 8. John Barrowman and Eve Myles return as Capt. Jack Harkness and Gwen Cooper, and they’ll be joined by new cast members Mekhi Phifer (“ER,” “Lie to Me”), Bill Pullman (“Independence Day”), Alexa Havins (“All My Children”) and Arlene Tur (Starz’s “Crash”). Lauren Ambrose (“Six Feet Under”) will have a recurring part.
“Miracle Day” begins with a day where no one on Earth dies — including Pullman’s character, a murderer who was due to be executed by lethal injection. No one dies the next day either, or the next, plunging the world into an instant population crisis. Phifer plays CIA agent Rex Matheson, who’s investigating the calamity and keeps hearing about something called Torchwood that may be connected to it.
Havins will play a CIA employee who gets free of her desk job when the crisis hits, and Tur will play a doctor who’s trying to care for the suddenly undying population.
“Miracle Day” will run for 10 episodes, and creator Russell T. Davies promises a “massive, shattering climax to the whole thing” in the finale.
