Following in the footsteps of this summer’s “Iron Man 3,” Michael Bay and Paramount Pictures have announced that their upcoming sequel “Transformers 4” will film portions in China, while also adding native Chinese actress Li Bingbing to the cast.
Binbgbing, who also appeared in “Resident Evil: Retribution,” joins a cast that includes Mark Wahlberg, Stanley Tucci, Kelsey Grammar, Jack Reynor, Nicola Peltz and Sophia Myles. “I am excited to have Li Bingbing join our cast and to be shooting portions of the movie in her native China. I have always aspired to work with the best actors and this cast is especially exciting now with the addition of Li,” Bay said in a statement.
Back in March, it had been revealed Marvel Studios had created a special version of “Iron Man 3” for the Chinese market, including an appearance of another Bingbing — Fan Bingbing. The film shot portions in China, as well.
This is just another in what is sure to be a growing trend of films that include elements to appeal to the incredibly large portion of the international market that China makes up.
