The first season of “True Detective” has proven to be a success for HBO, both critically and in the ratings, which makes a Season 2 pick-up mostly a foregone conclusion. And it looks like there’s a possibility the anthology series’ new set of leads could be of the female variety.
Nic Pizzolatto, writer/creator of the tense thriller, fielded a seemingly innocuous tweet from Lana Guineay, an editor for ASOS Australia, in which she challenged the way the series handles women — and in doing so, generated much speculation about the future of the series.
“Hey @nicpizzolatto if True Detective looked at feminine characters with the same lens as masculine, it would be PERFECT & MIND-BLOWING,” Guineay writes.
As Grantland reports, in a response that has since been deleted, Pizzolatto says, “@friggenawesome One of the detriments of only having two POV characters, both men (a structural necessity). Next season…”
Naturally, Pizzolatto’s response could mean a multitude of things, but perhaps it’s time to start including female couples in your next contribution to the #TrueDetectiveSeason2 meme?
