Try as they might, the folks at “Two and a Half Men” can’t seem to escape the ghost of Charlie Sheen. So in the interest of sweeps, they’ve chosen to bring back Charlie (or at least a version of him) for Monday’s (April 30) episode.
[Mild spoiler alert]
After Alan suffers what can only be described as a psychosomatic heart attack, he receives a visitor in his hospital room who, as it turns out, is the apparition of his late brother. The only difference is the bowling shirt-wearing, cigar-smoking, foul-mouthed ghost is played by Kathy Bates.
“Walking around in this old broad’s body is supposed to be some kind of eternal damnation,” she tells Alan (Jon Cryer). Charlie then offers some sage-like advice for Alan at a time when he needs it most. But in typical “Two and a Half Men” style, there’s always a humorous twist.
This is far from the only plot line the show has based on Sheen’s character since his firing in 2011. The season began with Charlie’s funeral. Later in the year, Alan experiences a breakdown when he realizes his brother is no longer alive.
As for Bates, the Oscar-winning actress is fantastic as Charlie. She channels his less-than-veiled disdain for his younger brother. And the writing for that character is as sharp as ever. If only she could come back every week.
The episode airs on CBS on Monday (April 30) at 9 p.m. ET.
