20-year-old rapper Tyler The Creator (aka Tyler Okonma) was arrested on Thursday night at The Roxy nightclub on Sunset Blvd. while his fans tweeted a minute-by-minute account of the action.
Unconfirmed reports suggest that Tyler got into an altercation with a sound engineer. Allegedly, the sound engineer turned off Tyler’s microphone. Tyler then apparently crowd-surfed to the engineer and threw the microphone. He was then arrested and charged with assault.
Stiller & Meara producer Mike Rosenstein shot the Instagram photo above of Tyler being cuffed and put into the cruiser. Reports came in that officers used bean-bag guns to curb the crowd that gathered on the sidewalk.
“Tyler’s mom yelling ‘That’s my baby,’ as Jasper Dolphin’s dad held her
back, while cops cuffed Tyler. A top hip hop moment for me,” tweeted Jensen Karp, later noting that the officers were video taping the crowd as helicopters arrived in riot response mode.
UPDATE: TMZ is reporting that Tyler was arrested on a vandalism charge after allegedly damaging a sound board inside the Roxy. The crowd dispersed after about 30 minutes, and no one was hurt.
