For the first time ever, fans have a say in the monsters in a Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights maze. Universal Hollywood will include two fan-designed monsters in their “Monsters Remix: Resurrection” house, which features the music of dubstep artist Figure.
One of the two monsters has already been selected. Christopher Oosting won Universal Studios Hollywood’s “Design a Character Contest” with his imagining of “The Invisible Man.” Meanwhile, the winner of the Aug. 20 “Future Frankenstein” episode of “Face Off” will be creating futuristic versions of Frankenstein and his bride for the maze.
“The Universal Studios classic monster movies of the 1920s, ’30s and ’40s defined the horror genre and inspired generations of filmmakers,” John Murdy, Universal Hollywood Halloween Horror Nights Creative Director, says in a statement. “For ‘Halloween Horror Nights,’ we reimagined classic characters and placed them in a rave-like environment — a present day ‘Monster Mash.’ It proved to be a fan favorite last year, and in 2013 there will be some exciting new twists.”
This year, “Monsters Remix: Resurrection” is set in a gothic castle and will include creatures including the three mentioned above, Dracula, the Wolf Man and the Mummy, all while Figure’s music plays. Universal Hollywood’s Halloween Horror Nights runs select nights starting Sept. 20.
