“The Vampire Diaries” returns for Season 3 on Sept. 15, and we’ve already dished all the dirt on that episode — but now we’ve got the scoop on episode 302, “The Hybrid,” as well. The title of the episode airing on Sept. 22 refers to Klaus’s mission to build himself a pack of hybrid werevamps, a plan that continues to go awry.
Meanwhile, in Mystic Falls…
We get our first glimpse of Matt (Zach Roerig) and Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) as they team up to reach out to Matt’s long-deceased sister, Vicki. In order to help Vicki, Jeremy needs to involve the person who was closest to her when she’s alive, and despite his reluctance, Matt steps up. He’s still on shaky ground when it comes to his sister’s death. Remember, not much time has passed in Mystic Falls since Vicki’s body was discovered, and Matt’s had even less time to process the supernatural circumstances around it.
Matt’s always been friendly with the Gilbert family (Remember when he helped Jenna home from the hospital? Swoon!) but we can expect to see him and Jeremy grow closer this season as they work together not only on creepy dead girl seances, but also at the Mystic Grill. We guess Jeremy (complete with fancy new hair cut) doesn’t mind going to work every day at the restaurant where he was killed.
And then, of course, there’s this photo of Elena (Nina Dobrev), which has already stirred up plenty of questions within the “Vampire Diaries” twitter fandom. Nope — Dobrev wasn’t just taking an impromptu behind-the-scenes dip to escape the Atlanta heat.
Here’s what we can tell you: yes, it’s a happy (and dare we say, flirtatious!) moment between Damon and Elena, despite her scowl in the photo.
As always, though, things are more complicated than they seem.
