Attention, Miley Cyrus: This is how your distance yourself from your Disney roots while maintaining integrity. Vanessa Hudgens, the multi-talented former “High School Musical” sweetheart, takes on yet another gritty movie role with “Gimme Shelter’s” Apple.
In the Roadside Attractions film, out Jan 24, V-Hudge plays a pregnant teen who has been abused for years by her mother, played by Rosario Dawson. Brendan Fraser plays Apple’s dad, a Wall Street mansion-dweller who abandoned her early in life and now wants to force her into an abortion. Only a man of the cloth (James Earl Jones) and the warm embrace of her peers at a girls’ shelter can help Apple find a new lease on life.
In the new trailer, an acne-covered Hudgens, riddled with facial piercings, recklessly hacks off her hair before recounting her story to the weepy sounds of Lana Del Rey‘s “Born to Die.” There are some rather intense moments in the trailer — which Hudgens pulls off expertly, by the way — that you’ll have to see for yourself.
