Star Tony Hale stopped by “Today” Friday to talk about his character, the much-maligned body man Gary, who Hale says is pretty much in love with Selina Meyer (Julia Louis-Dreyfus).
“[As body man] he has whatever she needs. Typically people do this in their 20s for a few years and then they burn out and they go on to do other stuff. … Gary has extended it into his 40s because that’s all he has. He has no identity outside Selina,” says Hale. ” … In Gary’s world, they’re going to be married one day. She probably doesn’t even know his last name, but in my world, she loves me.”
Below watch a clip of the premiere episode, titled “New Beginnings,” which sees Selina at a book signing in Iowa as she launches her run for president.
“Veep” airs Sundays at 10:30 p.m. ET/PT on HBO.
