A new reality show is launching on VH1 on Thursday (July 17) called “LeAnn & Eddie,” which follows the everyday happenings of singer LeAnn Rimes and her husband actor Eddie Cibrian, who tell the 2014 summer TV press tour that the show is meant to be humorous and light-hearted.
“[This show] gives us an opportunity to have fun and work together and ultimately, this is a comedy. That’s kind of how we go abou tour life as well — we laugh,” says Cibrian.
“Eddie and I really have coped with [our struggles] by laughing,” adds Rimes. “We’re smart a**es, we give
each other a lot of crap. People think we take ourselves super seriously
and we don’t at all. It’s time to have fun and take that story back,
because it is ours, it isn’t anyone else’s to twist and turn and spread
lies about. This is our first chance for you to see who we really are.”
Rimes is speaking of how prevalent she and Cibrian have been in the tabloids in recent years, which she says will be addressed on the show.
“We definitely hit on the tabloid fodder because that’s what has surrounded our lives so much for the last five years,” says Rimes. “Everyone has used our lives for entertainment, so we kind of wanted to take our life back and have fun with our story, with where we are now.”
But they won’t be using the show to fire shots back at Cibrian’s ex-wife, “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star Brandi Glanville.
“This show is not an opportunity to fire back at anybody other than to kind of make fun of the fodder that has surrounded us. If anything, it’s very much a satire,” says Cibrian. “As far as the kids are concerned, they are not in the show and that was a decision that we made together. It’s not about that, we keep them out of it as much as possible. My kids are not in my ex-wife’s show and they’re definitely not going to be in ours.”
Rimes adds, “We do discuss Eddie’s ex-wife when it needed to be discussed … you can’t really do a show without talking about that. But I always say the whole show, we joke about ourselves, we make fun of ourselves. … We both realize to do a show like this you can’t take yourselves seriously.”
“LeAnn & Eddie” premieres Thursday, July 17 at 10:30 p.m. ET/PT on VH1.
