All is quiet on the “Walking Dead” companion series front, but that might not be the case for very long. Executive producer Gale Anne Hurd tell Zap2it during a San Diego Comic-Con 2014 interview that Robert Kirkman, who penned the story, and “Sons of Anarchy” writer Dave Erickson are expected to deliver a script “any moment.”
AMC announced the companion series in September 2013, and since then there have been few details about what the show will actually be about. Hurd says there’s no target date for having the story delivered, because “we’d rather have it right than right now.”
Though Hurd kept mum on specific story points, she did say the new show is “not the same city, it’s not the same cast.” As for the tone, “it’s not going to be a musical comedy, it’s not going to be a satire, but it is going to be essentially following other characters — and not characters from the comic book either.”
There’s also a chance the companion series might not follow the ensemble format “The Walking Dead” does so well either. “Given that the world lends itself to having multiple characters, I don’t know that it’s going to be as large an ensemble,” Hurd admits. “I’m sure that we’ll be following more than one [character].”
“The Walking Dead” Season 5 premieres on Oct. 12, 2014 on AMC.
