A Valentine’s Day wedding at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in Madison Square Garden. Sounds like the plot of Christopher Guest’s follow-up to “Best in Show.” But it’s not. It’s for real.
The Seattle Times reports that Brad Slayton, 58, and fiancee Debbie Parsons, 54, will be wed Tuesday evening, Feb. 14, at the annual dog show, just hours after their 120-pound Tibetan mastiff, Major, competes.
The couple will be married in Westminster’s “benching area,” the area for dogs, trainers, handlers and owners to hang out in when they are not competing. Debbie will wear a pink Vera Wang dress and Brad will wear a gray tux with a pink rose boutonniere, with a few close friends and family members there to help celebrate.
The two met in 2006 on a dating website, which Parsons joined at the urging of her friends after her husband passed away the previous year. Parsons and Slayton now own six Tibetan mastiffs. This is their first time at Westminster since 2008, when they showed Major’s dad as part of the first group of Tibetan mastiffs ever invited to Westminster.
Congratulations to them. It wouldn’t be our first choice for a wedding, but it sounds wonderful and perfect for Brad and Debbie.
