According to NBC news, the Smooth Fox Terrier is the favorite to win at the 135th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show at Madison Square Garden in New York City Tuesday, Feb. 15. Odds-maker Johnny Avello says that there will even be a battle within the breed between Smooth Fox Terrier Dodger and Smooth Fox Terrier Adam.
Avella has a Smooth Fox Terrier at 6-1 odds, a Pekingese named Malachy at 7-1 and a Boxer named Scarlett at 8-1 to win Best in Show.
WKC is also introducing six new breeds in 2011: the Boykin Spaniel joins the Sporting Group, the Bluetick Coonhound and Redbone Coonhound join the Hound Group, the Cane Corso and the Leonberger join the Working Group and the Icelandic Sheepdog joins the Herding Group.
Almost 2600 total dogs will be on hand to compete. The 135th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show airs Monday night, Feb. 14 with the Hound, Toy, Non-Sporting and Herding Groups from 8 to 9 p.m. ET live on USA, then from 9 to 11 p.m. live on CNBC. The show concludes on Tuesday, Feb. 15 with the Sporting, Working, Terrier Groups and Best In Show from 8 to 11 p.m. ET live on USA.
