The day after Whitney Houston was found dead in a Beverly Hills hotel room, TMZ is reporting that police found “various pill bottles,” including Xanax, in the singer’s room. TMZ also reports that Houston was found in a bathtub and may have drowned.
Members of Houston’s entourage reportedly became concerned after Houston had been in the bathroom for more than an hour. Once they discovered her unconscious, a bodyguard attempted CPR, but was unable to revive her. Paramedics who arrived on the scene shortly after were also unable to bring Houston around and she was pronounced dead at 3:55 p.m.
Houston had been at Grammy rehearsals on Thursday, coaching singers Brandy and Monica, but a source tells Reuters Houston “looked disheveled, was sweating profusely and liquor and cigarettes could be smelled on her breath.”
After rising to the top of the pop and R&B charts in the late 1980’s and early ’90’s, Houston battled drug and alcohol addiction. She confessed to abusing cocaine, marijuana, pills and alcohol.
“The biggest devil is me. I’m either my best friend or my worst enemy,” Houston told ABC’s Diane Sawyer in a 2002 interview.
