Depending on who you ask, the investigation into the death of Whitney Houston is either still very much open or completely closed. On Thursday (March 22), the Los Angeles coroner announced that the singer did have cocaine in her system at the time of her death in February, though drowning is the official cause of death.
And, according to the Los Angeles Times, the investigation is pretty much over and will be official closed as soon as the final autopsy report is complete.
But the Beverly Hills Police Department — Houston died in a bathtub at the Beverly Hilton — tells EW that the case is still active and will remain so while authorities try to determine where she acquired the cocaine and what else happened in her room on the day of her death.
“It’s our policy not to comment on open investigations.” Lt. Mark Rosen of the Beverly Hills Police Department tells EW.
