The field for outstanding guest actor and actress in a comedy series at this year’s Emmys might as well be known as the double-nominee categories.
Five of the 13 nominees in the two categories — Jon Hamm, Neil Patrick Harris, Christine Baranski, Tina Fey and Jane Lynch — are also nominated for their roles on their full-time TV jobs. But the biggest names don’t always take the honors for guest acting — last year, for instance, the comedy guest Emmy went to part-time actor Justin Timberlake for his “Saturday Night Live” hosting gig over the likes of Hamm, Steve Martin and Alan Alda.
So as we kick off a series of Emmy polls that will run every week between now and the awards, we want to know who you think deserves the guest actor and actress Emmys for comedy. Is it one of the multiple nominees above? Mike O’Malley for his heartfelt (and, OK, not especially comedic) performance as Kurt’s (Chris Colfer) dad in “Glee”? Betty White for her turn as “SNL” host? Fred Willard as Phil’s (Ty Burrell) equally goofy father on “Modern Family”?
Vote in the polls below and let us know what you think in the comments (and keep up to date on the awards with all of Zap2it’s Emmy coverage).
