“12:30 is up in the air,” CBS Corporation CEO Leslie Moonves said in an interview with Bloomberg on Thursday (April 10). “Obviously, we’re considering all sorts of candidates and women are among them. A woman would be great in late night.”
What does this mean for Ferguson, who has hosted “The Late Late Show” since 2005? Reportedly, CBS is considering keeping him even after his contract expires in June 2014.
But if Ferguson does go, that leaves a major late-night spot open on a TV playing field that includes no women working as hosts.
The only female late-night host at the moment, Chelsea Handler of “Chelsea Lately” on E! may be the front-runner for the “Late Late Show” job after her contract ends with the current season. An anonymous insider told Bloomberg that talks between CBS and Handler are at an early stage.
