It’s unclear how big Marvel’s presence at San Diego Comic-Con will be in 2013, but ABC already proudly revealed that “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” will be having its first-ever panel. Executive producer Joss Whedon and Marvel Head of Television Jeph Loeb will be on the panel, but what about the TV series’ cast? Clark Gregg told Zap2it on the 2013 Saturn Awards red carpet that he doesn’t know if he’ll be on hand to promote the show or not.
“Comic-Con’s right when we start shooting, so I don’t even know if I’m going to get to go,” he reveals.
With that being said, Gregg still promises that plenty of excitement is in store on that panel. “I know that one of the fun things about being involved with Marvel is they always have something up their sleeve,” he says. “I know they have something up their sleeve with ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ and I have a feeling some of that will be revealed [at Comic-Con].”
Gregg’s character Agent Phil Coulson is at the center of “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” but he’s not a typical comic book hero. Still, when asked which superhero he would portray on film and television if he had the choice, Gregg stood by his character.
“I would be Agent Coulson,” he says. “I know some people don’t consider him a superhero, but the blend of being a real person who’s clearly capable of being killed or nearly killed, and yet the fact he’s not a superhero means he’s the one who gets to tease someone if they’re getting too caught up in their cape or their fancy outfit. That’s the ideal gig in the Marvel universe if you ask me.”
“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” premieres in the fall on ABC. The show’s Comic-Con panel will take place on July 19. Watch the above video to see what happens when Gregg meets the Shakespearean language of “Much Ado About Nothing” with the comic book world of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe.
