Sorry, United States. It looks like you lost out to tinier, scrappier country.
On Thursday, Dec. 2, FIFA announced that the wealthy Middle Eastern nation of Qatar will host the World Cup in 2022, beating out the U.S., Australia, Japan and South Korea’s bids, according to CNN.
Russia was named the 2018 host, beating out England and joint bids from Spain/Portugal and Belgium/Netherlands. This marks the first time the World Cup will be held in eastern Europe.
And although it’s fun to travel overseas to catch a soccer match, we’re definitely disappointed and a little miffed (leading to some miffed tweeting) at being passed over for the tiny Arab nation.
Okay, we’re over it now. Congrats to Russia and Qatar. Goaaaaaalllll!
Are you happy with the announcement or would you prefer it in the USA? USA! USA!
